Dynamic Lyrics for Mac › Guides
Live lyrics in your MacBook notch.
The notch on a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air sits right where your eyes rest. Dynamic Lyrics turns it into a Dynamic Island for your music, with the current lyric hanging just below it.
The Lyric Capsule
When a song plays, a black capsule grows out of the notch with the line being sung. Underneath, you choose what the second row shows:
- Next lyric: the line coming up, so the next words are already in view.
- Song details: the title and artist, for when the lyric alone doesn't place the song.
- Lyric only: one line, on the shortest capsule.
Hover over the capsule and it opens into a full player: artwork, progress, shuffle, repeat, previous, play and next, and the lines around the current one. Move away and it retracts back into the notch.
The capsule is sized from your Mac's actual notch. On an external display or a Mac without one, it appears in the same spot at the top of the screen.
Turn it on
- Install Dynamic Lyrics for Mac and open it.
- Choose OK when macOS asks to let it control Music or Spotify.
- Press ⇧⌘C, or open Settings › Lyric Capsule and turn on Show Lyric Capsule.
- Optional: turn on Hide when paused so it disappears when the music stops, and Show player on hover for the expanded player.
Make your notch sing. The Lyric Capsule is part of Dynamic Pro.
Download on theMac App StoreLyrics in the menu bar
Prefer something even quieter? Turn on Show current lyric under Settings › Menu Bar and the lyric scrolls beside the clock. Set the length anywhere from 12 to 48 characters. Click it for the song, playback controls and quick toggles for Floating Lyrics, the capsule and translation.
On a MacBook with a notch, keep the length short so the lyric isn't hidden behind it when your menu bar is crowded.
Questions
Is there a Dynamic Island for Mac?
macOS doesn't include one, but Dynamic Lyrics adds a Lyric Capsule that grows out of the MacBook notch with the current lyric, and expands into a player with artwork and controls when you hover over it.
Does the Lyric Capsule work without a notch?
Yes. On an external display or a Mac without a notch, the capsule appears in the same place at the top of the screen.
How do I put lyrics in the Mac menu bar?
In Dynamic Lyrics, open Settings, choose Menu Bar and turn on Show current lyric. Set the length from 12 to 48 characters so it fits next to your other menu bar icons.
